What is a polyfill? A polyfill is a piece of code that is used to provide/fill-in some feature on older browsers that don't support that feature by default. For example, there are some JavaScript functions/features that Google Chrome supports but Internet Explorer does not support (like Promises or Object.assign()). In order to ensure that the website doesn't break in IE, a developer could write a piece of polyfill code that simulates the missing functionality that IE does not support. 📚 Materials/References: GitHub Code: 🤍 🌎 Find Me Here: Twitter: 🤍 Ebooks: 🤍 Discord: 🤍 Merch: 🤍 ❌ Correction: At 7:58, I said "signature" when I should have said "reference".
Polyfill for bind function is one of the most important question in frontend javascript interviews. I've faced this question a lot of time while giving interviews and have also started asking this myself while taking interviews. This video tutorial covers a step by step approach to write our own implementation of bind method in Javascript. Polyfills can be a little confusing to figure out why and when you need them, and how to accomplish that. Babel has docs covering it, but there is a lot to unpack there, which was quite confusing to me when I first encountered this world. Polyfill is basically back support of methods that our old browser doesn’t support. It's a very popular question on any JavaScript interview. How .bind() method works? Can we rebind already bound function? To understand it we'll create our own bind polyfill and check how it works inside. The main trick is using js closure. In this case, context is inside closure and it's impossible to change context. Keyboard focus is crucially important for both motor impaired users, and visually impaired users relying on a screen reader. One common UI mistake is to leave elements in the DOM that are offscreen but still contain focusable children. A responsive side nav is a classic example. So in today's episode we'll look at how we can solve this common gotcha with a new proposed HTML attribute: inert! Using the inert attribute you can take an entire tree of elements out of the tab order and the accessibility tree. It's an awesome feature that's totally missing from the web platform today, but we're working to change that! In the upcoming episodes we'll take a step back and explore the underlying concepts around focus and how it works in the platform, but if you're eager to play around with inert today you can find the polyfill up on GitHub. Enjoy! WICG inert polyfill 🤍 Watch all A11ycasts episodes: 🤍 Subscribe to the Chrome Developers YouTube channel for updates on new episodes of A11ycasts: 🤍
