This Mid 2012 13” MacBook Pro is the ultimate budget option for shoppers looking for a machine supported under the latest version of macOS, Mojave. These cheap budget computers can be had for $300-$500 pretty easily on eBay, depending on specification and configuration. I upgraded mine to 8gb of RAM and 240gb SSD myself, so I don’t have a ‘purchase price’ for you guys, but it seems you can find similar configurations for about $450-$500 depending on where you live. macOS Mojave hasn’t brought any noticeable performance hits to this little machine, though your mileage may vary. For budget shoppers, a device like this will give you the ease of a modern mac with the knowledge that current and future support is likely. I spoke to a Genius at an Apple store, and he assured me this machine will be supported with software until 2020. Lately i’ve seen a few comments going around about how to create a bootable usb for Mac OS Mojave and in this video I’m going to show you how. Step 1: Get a 16gb USB 3.0 drive. Step 2: On a Mac goto the app store and download mac os mojave but DO NOT proceed with the installation. Just download it from the app store and when prompted to install press command+q to quit the installation. Step 3: insert the usb drive to the mac Step 4: use spotlight and search for “disk utility” and launch that app Step 5: select the usb drive from the menu on the left and format it using the mac os journaled partition scheme and also name the drive UNTITLED Step 6: use spotlight and search for “terminal” and launch that app Step 7: copy and paste the following code into terminal and press enter and then follow the prompts. sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia volume /Volumes/untitled Step 8: once the files have been copied you should receive a message telling you that the process was successful and now you are ready to go. You can now insert that usb into any mac and when booting it up hold down the option key to select the usb drive you created to re-install the OS onto whatever hdd or ssd you have. In this episode I’m going to demo how to install and run macOS Mojave on an external USB 3.0 SSD drive. Straight to the Demo. Soooooo, Let's Get Started. What you will need: An Intel Based Mac System. A Downloaded copy of macOS Mojave Installer. And finally, a fast USB 3.0 External SSD Drive. As usual, since we'll be using Disk Utility, make sure you have or made a backup of your system hard drive before proceeding. Now, with all the basic necessities taken care of, the first thing we'll need to do after inserting the SSD drive in an available USB 3.0 socket, is to open Disk Utility and format the SSD Drive. Therefore, after opening Disk Utility, click on the name of your SSD drive in the sidebar, in my case the name is Blank SSD, then click the Erase button shown here. Now, name your SSD drive to whatever you like and make sure that the format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then click the Erase button to format the SSD drive. After formatting the SSD drive, you can close Disk Utility and simply launch the macOS Mojave installer and choose to install Mojave on the SSD drive just formatted. I’ll just time lapse the installation process from here, which took about 18 minutes to complete, to point where you begin to select your location. Once the required login details has been entered, you are brought to the Mojave desktop. At this point, it’s advisable to change the startup disk order from the external SSD drive to your default start up drive of your Mac, which in my case is the Macintosh HD as shown here. Once that’s taken care of, I’ll just shutdown the Mac and proceed with the power and option key combination to boot to the Startup Manager and click on the external SSD drive to launch macOS Mojave as shown. Three weeks ago at this time, Engadget was in the middle of a marathon liveblog. Apple was kicking off its annual WWDC developer conference and, as usual, it had news to share about each of its major platforms. Though iOS was the clear star of the show, dominating more than half of the two-hour keynote, macOS notched a solid second place, with around half an hour of lip service.
