Relationships between articles in different languages offer opportunities in terms of comparison and verification of the quality of information provided by various Wikipedia communities. Quality of data in DBpedia depends on underlying information provided in Wikipedia’s infoboxes. Various language editions can provide different information about given subject with respect to set of attributes and values of these attributes. Research question is which language editions provide correct values for each attribute so that data fusion can be carried out.

Making Wikipedia more multilingual inspired creation of the WikiBhasha tool. WikiBhashaΓÇöΓÇ£Wiki,ΓÇ¥ signifying its community-oriented approach; ΓÇ£Bhasha,ΓÇ¥ a Sanskrit word meaning ΓÇ£languageΓÇ¥ΓÇöfeatures a content-creation platform that combines linguistic services, such as machine translation, with a Wikipedia-friendly content editor. Everyday users in countries around the world, as well as language enthusiasts, can use WikiBhasha to adapt English-language Wikipedia articles for local languages. Along the way, they can create new local content to expand the article they have translated. WikiBhasha users also can create new articles from scratch. And in time, the tool could help convert articles in languages other than English into local languages.
Wikipedia exists currently in 283 languages, and “incubates” many more encyclopedia in other languages. There’s a very high probability that students can work in the language they’re fluent in. Translation can be an activity that will show them the ropes and increase their language skills, on top of developing their knowledge of the subject matter. At first glance, the list of the languages with the most Wikipedia articles makes sense. English is first, and then there are other languages like German, Swedish, French, Dutch, Russian Spanish and so on. For the most part, these are some of the most commonly spoken languages in the west, except for one. Cebuano, a language with around 18-22 million native speakers, has 6.1 million articles, close to three times more than 3rd place German. So, why is Cebuano the 2nd most common language on Wikipedia? Mortenson and Keogh (2011) consider a Kuki-Chin affiliation to be more likely, although they recognize that are strong links with Southern Tangkhul.Sorbung is spoken by about 300 people of Sorbung village, Ukhrul District, Manipur, northeastern India. Sorbung speakers consider themselves to be ethnic Tangkhul. A language that is unambiguously Tangkhulic is spoken in nearby Tusom village. Kuki (Thadou) and Maring are also spoken in neighboring villages.

If a Wikipedia article has a quote in a language different from the article language, it needs to be translated. In this example, we have a quote in German, on the English Wikipedia. This quote needs to have an accompanying translation within the body of the text. If you translate a quote, leave a message on the article talk page explaining how the translation was made. This can be a more advanced edit to make. But, with practice is a very useful contribution. Wikimedia UK is working closely with Derby Museum & Art Gallery, and is trialling the use of QR codes that direct visitors to more information on Wikipedia's website. Here we see a new development: one QR code recognising the language each phone is set to. Providing there is a Wikipedia page in that language, the user is sent there. Here we see two phones using one QR code next to the mineral, amethyst, to arrive at different pages. One in French; one in English. How cool is that? This demo was hastily filmed in advance of a GLAM-Wiki meet up on 9th April 2011. Despite its low resolution, we felt it well-worth sharing. We plan to re-shoot it with a proper video camera later!

It is one of the 22 scheduled languages mentioned in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution and the official language of the Indian state of Goa. The first Konkani inscription is dated 1187 A.D. SUMMARY = The Germanic languages are a branch of the Indo-European language family spoken natively by a population of about 515 million people mainly in Europe, North America, Oceania, and Southern Africa. The West Germanic languages include the three most widely spoken Germanic languages: English with around 360-400 million native speakers; German, with over 100 million native speakers; and Dutch, with 24 million native speakers.
