Check out all of our cutlery! 🤍 and our NEW beef sticks and other snacks! 🤍 (15:19) Linktree: 🤍 You've seen us process a lot of bison, but you've never seen us remove the hide. Today, The Bearded Butchers are going to show you exactly how we skin the bison that we raise right here on our own farm in Creston, Ohio. The bison we skin in this video is a 24 month old bison bull. Seth uses a variety of 6 inch Victorinox knives. He is most comfortable with a Victorinox 6 inch, semi-stiff curved blade knives. The hide is thicker, the hair is thicker, overall, a bison is difficult to skin. Compared to a beef hide, a bison hide is extremely dry. The hide on a bison can be close to a half inch thick in some places! Dealing with the hair is usually the biggest issue but it has to be managed. Keeping the carcass clean is the most important part of skinning an animal. 3:40 If you have longer and shorter blades, use the shortest one on the legs. As you skin, use your thumb to keep pulling the hair back away from the exposed carcass. 📸 Want to make videos like ours? Flaying is a method of torture or execution in which the skin of a person is removed, typically while they are still alive. It was most commonly used in Africa and Asia in ancient and medieval times, but instances of it have been found in many parts of the world. - The process is similar regardless of the location. The victim is typically bound and stretched out, with their hands above their head and feet together. The torturer usually begins by peeling the skin off the face using a small knife, and then continues to remove the skin in a single piece down the body. This process is slow and extremely painful, and most victims die before the torturer reaches their waist. In some cases, the victim may be left in the sun or boiled in hot water to soften the skin before it is removed. Flaying was a common method of punishment and torture used in various cultures. It was often used in ritual sacrifices, as well as on criminals, enemy soldiers, deposed rulers, and even accused witches. In some cases, such as in ancient Aztec culture, the victim was already dead when their skin was removed. Other cultures, like the Assyrians, would flay their enemies alive and then display their intact skin by nailing it to a wall. In medieval Europe, flaying was typically done by cutting off pieces of flesh rather than removing the entire skin. It was not a widely used method of torture in Europe, but it was occasionally employed as a means of extracting information. For example, some of the Babington Conspirators, who were involved in a plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth I of England in order to free Mary, Queen of Scots, from captivity in 1586, were flayed to reveal information about the plot. In China, flaying was sometimes limited to removing flesh from the face rather than the entire body. However, in 1396, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Hongwu, ordered the flaying of 5,000 women. He also flayed many servants and enemies during his reign. Flaying has not been a common practice in the United States, but there have been some instances of it occurring in the country's history. One well-known example is the case of Nat Turner, a slave who led a rebellion in 1831. After being hanged, Turner's skin was removed. Flayed skin was often put to various uses after it was removed. In ancient times, it might have been used to cover vases or urns, similar to traditional leather. The use of skin as an offering or decorative element was often part of the ritualistic nature of flaying. However, the Assyrians would display the flayed skins of their enemies as trophies, hanging them on their walls as reminders of their victories in battle #flaying #history #punishments

Grant shares techniques to easily remove the hide from a white-tailed deer. See a detailed step-by-step guide with tips on how to keep the meat clean in this first step of processing venison. One of the tips in this video is how to use your knife: Most guys cut with their knife outside going in, and that just puts hair everywhere, cutting from the inside out. Note: Dr. Grant Woods is a Ph.D Wildlife Biologist that has hunted whitetails for work and pleasure for many years. He has harvested hundreds of deer for scientific research. Those deer were donated to local charitable organizations. Given the high number of deer harvested for his research projects, he had to learn efficient ways to clean a deer so that the meat stays clean and free of hair and other contaminants. #deerhunting #teamoutdoors

🤍 Visit our DIY Section to get EVERYTHING you need to process your own meat at home! You asked for it, so here it is! Scott and Seth are going to walk you through the farm to table process of preparing your favorite cut of beef. Homesteaders rejoice, this is the end all how to series that you'll need for beef preparation. Coming to you again from Whitefeather Meats in Creston, Ohio, The Bearded Butchers will walk you through the process of how to skin a cow step by step to remove the hide. You don't need a Butcher Shop to follow along, just a few knives and a clean working area. 🤍 - Visit our store for Seth's favorite knife and honing steel 🤍 - Don't forget our famous Bearded Butcher Blend seasoning! 🔪 Need more Bearded Butcher content? Have questions? Follow us on social media! 🐮 🤍 🐮 🤍 🐮 🤍 Pro butcher tips from this video: 1) Make a cradle for the animal to lie on its back with its feet up in the air. Don't try to skin it while it's hanging. 2) If you notice that you've contaminated any meat, just clean your blade and cut out the contaminated piece of meat. Index: 1:33 - Seth starts on the hind leg by cutting the tendon and working his way down. Then, the other leg. 2:05 - Explanation of how The Butchers keep themselves and the meat clean throughout. They have a stream of 180 degree water to keep the utensils clean. At home, you can just have a hot pot of water nearby that's at least 180 degrees F. 2:21 - One long continuous cut through the belly of the animal. 2:38 - Back to the first leg. Don't cut through these tendons. Same process again on the other leg. 3:51 - Siding the animal. Follow the previous cut on the belly to remove the hide in systematic fashion. Pull the hide towards yourself and keep a nice, downward pressure on the knife. Nice long strokes. Continue working around the entire animal, keep the hide away from the meat to keep the meat clean. 9:51 - Split the brisket (use a handsaw if you don't have a power saw). 10:27 - The next generation of (bearded) butchers. 10:52 - Lifting the animal carcass up into the air to finish skinning the backside of the beef. 13:05 - Lift it up the rest of the way. Finish removing the hide. Let gravity help you with the hide at this point.
