Sorry but bobbie pins go with the curved side on your (curved) head, & the groove side goes up. As a person who uses them every day when I tried your way I had to remove most of them as the edge that "catches" your hair when you use them correctly were poking me in the head.

During the 60's, when I was in High School, those "hanger loops" on the backs of men's shirts were called "fairy loops."
Homosexuality, or even the tolerance of it, was discouraged up until the late Sixties, when we all were told to become "One" with one another.
Sometimes girls would pull the loop off, and in doing so occasionally tear the shirt all the way down to the belt line. They never got into any kind of trouble for it. Perhaps the explanation given on this link was really a more politically correct way of saying the same thing ...
